>> devastation for three bay area families. three young men from san jose and fremont killed in that deadly rampage in santa bar raw. good evening. i'm ama dates. investigators say it is apparent elliott rogers shot and killed himself as the officers chased him. he sent out his manifesto. his parents were rushing to santa barbara when they heard about the rampage. six people are hospitalized and all are in fair or good condition. all six people who were killed have been identified. three as i said were from the bay area. abc7 news reporter lilian kim is live in san jose with the details. lilian? >> ama, one of them graduated

and all three were said to have been buddies who were genuinely nice guys. they were the pirs victims. he stabbed them to death before he went on a shooting rampage. wong was an only child who loved computer games and basketball. friends say he was happy at ucsb , studying to be an engineer. the 20-year-old graduated from fremont christian high school a few years ago. >> wong was good friends with james chang, 20 years old. today they leased an apartment with roger. it was a tense arrangement. roger accused chang of stealing some of his candles and chang pled guilty of petty theft. his friends are grieving. they say chang knew everyone and will be deeply missed.

christopher martinez from loss -- los-osos. sergio continues our coverage live. sergio? >> ama, this is the latest memorial of candles and flowers. it does honor those three young men who were stabbed to death inside one of the units here at the caw bree apartments. 24r* is a card that someone left for george chen. he came to visit this weekend and this is where their killer lived. residents of the capri apartments is struggling with the fact that one of his neighbors is responsible for so much violence. >> i thought everything happened away from caw -- capri. >> he lives upstairs from elliott rogers and asked we don't reveal his identity.

over the last several months he got to know roger well so during the mass vigil he decided not to go. >> when you only know the shooter, what am i supposed to do? go there and say i'm sorry i knew the guy that did this? >> they popped up in several spots marking where students were killed or injured. martinez was shot to death and one victim was hit by rogers' car as the rampage came to an end. >> it started here before he struck a bike and came in here and hit these two cars h and ended up being lodged. >> he is still recovering from having both of his legs broken when he was hit.

community came together to mourn and pay tribute to the lives lost at the rampage. the mass took place at saint mark's university parish on campus. elliott roger called the rampage the day of retribution. now investigators are treeing to learn all a they can about the 22-year-old. sheriff deputies searched the home of rogers' mother. just minutes before he started shooting they got a call from her son's therapist. he also posted a video on youtube that day. that's when his mother and father started driving to santa barbara, but was too late. it was the latest time his parents worried about him. april 30th they asked deputies to check on him. >> mr. rogers presented himself in a manner that convinced them he was not a danger to them. >> i don't know why you girls are not attracted to me, but i

the heat wasn't the best thing in the east bay. four people were rushed to the hospital with heat related injuries. the temperature rose to the low 90s which took its toll on concert goers. police are investigating a suspicious death in fremont. officers responded to this home after receiving a 9-1-1 call from a family member. inside they found the body of a 39-year-old woman. small children were also inside the home at the time. one other family member known to live in the house is still missing sm. still to come, a close call for the chp officer and how the person he was about to give a ticket to may have saved his life. and the brief dust storm caught on tape near sacramento. and later, someone in the bay area is now $70 million richer. where the latest superlotto ticket was sold when

officer is recovering after an suv slammed into his patrol car along highway 101 in santa rosa. the officer was standing next to his patrol car after pulling over a motorist when the suv drifted to the shoulder and hit the cruiser. the chp officer flew into the car and blacked out. that's when the man a who was pulled over rushed to save the officer. >> took him away from the car. there was gas leaking. i did what i had to fast. i pulled hem out and another guy helped me and we drug him out.

i'm ama dates. in tonight's headlines, a chp officer had two broken legs and is recovering after a driver hit him and his car during a traffic stop. it happened on the 101 near santa rosa. officers say the man who was originally pulled over dragged the officer to safety. today's warm weather caused problems for concert goers at concord pavilion. temperatures were in the low 90s. and police in fremont are looking at a suspicious death. a woman was found, and small kids were there. now to the deadly rampage near santa barbara. all six victims have been identified. this afternoon we learned that the first three men killed in the mass attack were from the bay area. 20-year-old james chang from san jose was roommates with elliott roger as was 20-year-old david wong from fremont.
